Q: When should I change the back-up battery in my Wood & Douglas PacsNet equipment?

The 12V 2Ah back-up battery is best checked annually as part of a preventative maintenance visit. A professional battery tester should be used to check the battery’s health and capacity.  You need to disconnect the battery from the PacsNet equipment when testing.

Generally, any float-charged battery should be changed out for a new one every three to four years. However, if the PacsNet is an outdoor unit exposed to ranges of temperatures and humidity, it may be necessary to exchange the battery earlier. Use the battery tester to check the state of the battery.

The battery type is a Yuasu NP2 – 12. It is widely available including direct from Wood & Douglas (part number: 1840 0022 )
